Synopsis
Amazon.comAs the Beatles' perpetual dark horse, Harrison rarely got the chance to write and sing more than one or two songs per album. But once the band split up, the former "quiet one" was quick out of the gate with a series of memorable hit singles that seamlessly merged his budding spirituality and an epic, Phil Spector-inspired pop sensibility. This collection, originally released in 1976, combines seven of Harrison's best-known Beatles numbers, including "Something," "If I Needed Someone," "Here Comes the Sun," and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with a half-dozen early solo hits including "My Sweet Lord," "Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)," "You," and "What Is Life." As such, it's a good entry-level Harrison primer. --Scott Schinder

CD Reviews
PREORDER 'LET IT ROLL' INSTEAD Timothy Smith | United States | 04/28/2009 (3 out of 5 stars) "Capitol-EMI did kind of give George's solo career a raw deal with this "best of" collection. But I think at that time George was taking a heavy beating (not deserved, BTW) for his "Dark Horse" and "Extra Texture" albums and wanted to make this more commercially palatable, apparently.
This album was nice because it did show neophytes that Harrison wrote some strong tunes with the Fabs, too, and wasn't just a preachy guy (his persona to a lot of misinformed people).
But now it is 2009 and FINALLY Capitol-EMI is putting out a career-spanning set called "Let It Roll: Songs By George Harrison" and an apparent sister set called "Let It Roll: The Best of George Harrison."
I still am wondering why there are two titles, but they are both available right now at Amazon.
So -- don't waste your money on THIS album anymore. My advice: pre-order the new one right now! Besides, the album cover is wonderful (yeah, it's from his Beatles days, but it captures the impassioned musical spirit and "Inner Light" of the Dark Horse!)"
