"the previous reviewer was right. Everyone OWNS this CD! it's a million seller and one of is all-time best in terms of chart longevity {at last count it had been on the Country Catalog charts well over 400 weeks}. the first three songs are remakes, all from 1977. the rest of the tracks are all in chronological order: "A Picture of Me Without You" {#5/1972}; "The Grand Tour" {#1/1974}; "Bartender's Blues" {#7/1978}; "He Stopped Loving Her Today" {#1/1980}; "Tennessee Whiskey" {#2/1983}; "The One I Loved Back Then" {#3/1985}; and the album closes with "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?", which also hit #3 in 1985. If you see a song or two left off, don't worry. Check "Super Hits, Volume Two" for "The Door", "Loving You Could Never Be Better", "Shine On", "Radio Lover", etc. For those who say George Jones stopped having hits in the early '70s, this collection shows otherwise. It's sequel, "Super Hits, Volume Two", picks up where this one leaves off and features several of his under-rated mid '80s hits on Epic. This is just a budget-minded album. The 1982 "Anniversary" is a better choice for MORE hits. of course, the box sets on George that surfaced in 1994 wipe out the importance of any prior "hits" CDs in the eyes of many. yet, for those who aren't THAT serious a fan, this "Super Hits" and it's sequel will do. His 1991-1998 MCA hits are available on another CD called "The George Jones Collection"."

Oh my god ,this cd is great

"as a person who usually listens to music by the likes of black sabbath,motorhead etc.i never thought i find myself writing a review for a george jones cd.i first heard this disc about a month ago at a party at my dad's house.he is a huge country fan.i loved it so much the first time i heard it,i had to get it loaned off my father,that was about a month ago and i listen to this cd atleast once a day.i like every track on this disc,white lightnin is awesome,one of my all time favorite tracks,why baby why,the grand tour,tennessee whiskey are all great.the rest of the tracks are also awesome.the only complaint i have about this cd is that some of the songs are rather depressing but that aside ,this is a awesome disc that i would recommend to anyone to buy."

A great (but short) introduction to George Jones

"This short compilation album can serve as a good, economical introduction to the man who, as far as I am concerned, simply is country music. You get a nice selection of hits from George Jones' long, distinguished career, from the fun White Lightnin' to the serious and respectful Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes. Picture of Me and Grand Tour are terrific ballads, but even these songs pale in comparison to the immortal He Stopped Loving Her Today. Look at any George Jones concert, and you will see the audience begging for this song all night long; it never fails to give me a little chill (which is the sign of an immensely powerful song) and stands alone at the peak of country music accomplishments. The newest songs (from the 1980s) on here are also very good. One I Loved Back Then, better known as The Corvette Song, is vintage George Jones, especially the chorus. Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes is a really special song because Jones pays tribute to the true country music legends that came before or alongside him, artists such as Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Lefty Frizzel, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and a number of others. It is somewhat ironic that Jones pays such a noble tribute to his forbears, while modern country radio stations all but refuse to play the Possum's music. This album is rather short in length, and you can find these great songs alongside additional George Jones hits on a number of other compilation albums, but Super Hits is more than worth the minimal price for anyone interesting in finding out why George Jones ruled country music for so many years."
