Gerard Edery brings a vibrant classically-trained baritone and the skills of a virtuoso guitarist to this project and is joined by world-class musicians on percussion, bass, Andean flutes and violins. Adina Ruskin's lyrics speak of love, of freedom, of conscience and of reincarnation. But the underlying message they share is that we are one--one in dignity, joy, responsibility, sorrow, and most importantly, in healing.
The CD evolved from songs written for Adina Ruskin's play I HEAR (OIGO) which tells the story of the Mothers and Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, a group of courageous women who stood up to the fascist military generals to demand the release of their children who had been disappeared , brutally tortured and murdered during Argentina's Dirty War (1976-83). The play had its Off-Braodway debut in April and March 2000 at the John Houseman Theater. The producers were so taken by these emotionally-charged songs that they decided to produce a full-length CD of Edery and Ruskin's original songs which was released by Sefarad Records on opening night. Glowing reviews of the production appeared in music media around the country including the New York Times.
