High Expectations Satisfied
Allison E. Faulkner | Glendale Heights, IL United States | 04/21/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"On hearing that a new Gerry Beckley CD was in the works, I immediately got my expectations up. Often, when expectations are high, the end product turns out to disappoint. Not so here. The more I listen to this fine work, the more I am enchanted by it. If you're familiar with Beckley's works in the group America or as a solo artist, you know that musically and lyrically, his genius comes through in so many ways. This CD is no exception.

This collection is filled with outstanding tracks. Warm Gone Gray is a perky, charming number. Love & Leaving and Somewhere Somehow are two lovely, melodic, individually outstanding ballads that stay with you all day. Saturday Sky is a delightful uptempo tune that gets the heart pumping. Lazurus is an energetic tune you just have to turn up loud. The Farmer Is The Man is a fascinating revision of the traditional folk song, done in fine, folksy style. I could write on and on about the fantastic tunes on this CD. Highly recommended!"
Simply splendid ! HORIZONTAL FALL

"GERRY BECKLEY of the group AMERICA has released a solo set of songs, 15 total. GERRY has written such classic gems as SISTER GOLDEN HAIR, I NEED YOU, DAISY JANE, MOVING TRAIN, PLAYING GOD, NOW SUE & SARAH among hundreds. The songs here are quite splendid.? GERRY touches upon many subjects & uses a variety of musical instruments to get his message across. His genius is readily apparent in such cuts as WARM GONE GRAY, SATURDAY SKY, THE FARMER IS THE MAN. He continues to produce songs that are pleasing melodically, musically & lyrically to everyday folks. His wide expanse of subject matter & musical wizardry combine to bring magical sounds of peace & love. His messages are clear, his feelings are real. Please give this one a close listen."

"Fans of Beckley will not be disappointed with this latest solo effort. Beginning with the instrumental "3a.m." which is heartbreaking in it's simplicity, the cd moves into some solid ballads which one would expect from the man who wrote "I need you" and Daisy Jane" The rocker "Lazarus" is a treat, HUGE drum sound provided by TWO drummers - Ryland Steen of Reel Big Fish and John Fields (Switchfoot, among others). Mimi Parker of Low appears on the last track, a beautiful ballad entitled "Somewhere, Somehow"
