"The stories that Gino tells in this work, his 14th album, seem to be clearly reflective of life experiences of an "inconsolable". Gino looks deeply into the mirror at his own reflection, and that of the culture he lives in, critically relfects on what he sees, and lyrically and musically expresses his insights.
When I first listened to this album my hope was always that the process of expressing all of those feelings musically and lyrically, therapeutically exorcised his demons and engendered hope.
Most of the songs recount reflections on love and interpersononal relationship struggles___ "if I should lose this love", "moment to moment", "cry of love", "bound to cry", and "the joker's wild". Of this group of songs, my favorite is "the jokers wild". This song sounds accoustic, and the instrumentation is the "backup" for the melodic voice that tells the tale of a "fool" and his princess. The song will have you humming it long after the music has stopped playing.
"The time of day", "shame", and "rhythm of romance" seem to be critical commentary on the fact that many people seemed to be oblivious to the state of the world and some of it's many problems. "Rhythm of romance" tells it's tale with a bit of sardonic wit while making you want to move your body to the grove.
"Shame" is my very favorite song on the album despite the tragedy of the theme (child prostitution and abuse). This up-tempo tune has a healthy dose of rock and roll,a splash of R&B funk, and a twist of gospel. I find it very interesting that the songs that are up tempo, make me feel good, make me want to dance, stay with me long after the music is done playing, and comment on serious social and ecological problems. Problems that are still with us some 15 years later.
"Sunset in L.A" and "inconsolable man" speak to intrapersonal strife. The album is a jewel, and I never get tired of listening to it."
Wonderful!

"The music is smooth and mellow. Gino's voice sounds great as usual singing with emotion. This CD includes romantic ballads such as "If I Should Lose This Love", heartbreakers such as "Inconsolable Man", message songs (The Time Of Day) and the obviously heartfelt "Sunset On L.A.". Another wonderful work from this gifted artist!"
One of Gino Vannelli's Best Ever!

"The theme throughout this album may be slightly melancholy, but at the same time it's also very uplifting! You'll find it virtually impossible to sit still during Rhythm of Romance, while Cry of Love makes you want to stand on top of that mountain and sing with him! And Moment to Moment is a very passionate song in which his voice has never sounded better! This album is a must for all true Vannelli fans!!!"
