"Few soul artists (or artists in any genre) have such an amazing wail as Gino Washington. He screams and sings and wails from the deepest area of his heart, possibly doing it better than James Brown can. Just listen to the first track and try to sit still. Soul music from the 60s is full of so much life and vitality that few other genres or periods of music have. As great as the stuff on Motown was, I've always prefered the rawer and cruder stuff that was taking place before the Beatles. Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Nathaniel Mayer, and Gino Washington are some of the most charismatic singers rock 'n' roll have ever seen. I haven't seen any of them live, but from what I hear its an experiance. They were all dancing on stage, never standing still, and singing with even more passion than they could in the studio. This is the only comp by Gino I own, but after liking this one so much, I plan to get the other comp on the great Norton records."
