"The New York based band, Girlfriend, fronted by singer/songwriters Phil Hyland and Robin Cryer, is a refreshing break from the trite, banal and insipid world that has been pop/rock music for the last 10 years.With intelligent, slightly off-beat, lyrics and heartfelt and catchy melodies, Girlfriend manages to entertain as well as inspire.All the tracks are beautifully produced. The opening track, "Look", which proves a wonderful vehicle for Cryer's lush and full vocals, kicks off the album majestically."Tremendous", "Then The Rain" and "Here Comes My Heart" are also stand-outs. But the emotional center of the LP is Hyland's wailing plea, "Lost Point." A truly affecting song that captures what it is like to be an artist, or anyone for that matter, in a state of depression.Hyland and Cryer compliment each other wonderfully both vocally and musically, and they seem to have a complete commitment to and love for their work.Here's hoping other rather tepid pop/rock get-ups start taking some cues from Girlfriend. Until then, all this reviewer can do is wait for their next CD release."
