"Gisselle is back with a full merengue album. The merengue is kind of different from Voy a Enamorarte and her older stuff, but still has great rhythms and Gisselle's beautiful voice dances all over them. Overall the album is very romantic. Here are my favorite songs:
3. Dolor De Amor--lyrics are kind of like Selena's Bidi Bidi Bom Bom. It has a guy rapping in a verse too.
4. Porque Te Quiero--starts as a ballad and then becomes merengue. really happy, upbeat and romantic: "sin ti, son cumpleaños sin apagar las velitas. dime que si, dime que yo soy tu favorita...voy a enredar mi cariño en las notas de esta cancion"
5. Donde Estabas--very romantic with a good beat. gisselle's voice sounds so beautiful in this one: "Donde estabas, que rincon de este planeta...para amarte, no me alcanzara la vida"
It's great, if you like merengue, if you like to dance, if you like upbeat romantic music buy it!"
WOW! Gisselle is BACK!

"After her last disappointing pop-ridden release "En Cuerpo, Alma y Corazon" (2002), Gisselle seems to have listened to her fans by releasing this fantastic brand new collection of merengue. At first glance, this CD looks like it's gonna be another "8" (2001) which was mediocre to say most, but don't be afraid to buy this one -- the original Gisselle is back! The title track "Contra La Marea" is an exciting start to the 11-track CD (which includes 8 cuts in merengue, 2 ballad versions of 2 of these, and 1 pop version of another.) "Contra La Marea" is an upbeat merengue track that give us a taste of what we're in for with the rest of this disc. "No Queda Nada" fakes out as a ballad but quickly transforms into merengue, and possibly one of the best tracks on the CD. "Dolor de Amor (Catapum)" can be seen as rather annoying and serves as the obligatory pop track of the CD, but the rest of the album is so refreshingly filled with the original Gisselle that this song is forgiveable and in time, possibly even enjoyable. (The merengue version of the track is worth a listen as well.) Other notable tracks include "Porque Te Quiero" (another ballad fake-out, turns into a catchy merengue tune!), "Confieso", "Atrevete" (possibly my favorite cut after the title track), and "Tienes Gusto De Otra Piel."Ladies and gentleman, Gisselle has returned with a virtually flawless album that will remind you why you fell in love with her in the first place. "Voy A Enamorarte" has been my favorite Gisselle CD (although the disc is divided half and half between merengue and ballads), but "Contra La Marea" may have just taken its place.."
