"If one good thing ever came out of my adolescent years, it was my love for music, especially punk rock. Back in high school, I was surrounded by too many conformists. You were either a jock/cheerleader or a metalhead. I was neither. During my freshman year in high school, I discovered Social Distortion and the rest was history. I threw myself into the whole punk culture. I lived and breathed punk. I read legendary fanzines such as Flipside and Maximum Rock 'N Roll. I bought music that I read about in the pages of Flipside and Maximum Rock 'N Roll. One of those bands I bought was The Gits. I bought "Frenching the Bully" one day (along with 7 Year B***h's "Sick 'Em All"). I was totally blown away by what I heard. Mia Zappata had an amazing set of vocal chords. In a genre of music where musical abilities isn't necessarily a prerequisite, Mia could actually sing. "It All Dies Anyway" (my favorite song by The Gits) was fast, loud yet melodic. The Gits certainly had that grungey sound to their music but they were by far not grunge. Their music was as fast as speed metal and as raw as The Ramones's music was. They lived and breathed the whole DIY life. They had that fierce independent spirit that the punk scene had (before it became watered down pop music no thanks to POS bands like Good Charlotte nad Blink 182). Tragically the band's career was cut short when Mia's life was taken from this planet (happy ending: her murderer was found in a Florida prison who is serving time for another crime). Although their time together was brief, The Gits gave me hope and left a legacy with their classic "Frenching the Bully". R.I.P Mia."

"I had never heard of the Gits until a couple of weeks ago when I watched their documentary. I fell in love with the band and I bought this CD on Itunes. I was blown away by the entire album. It has a mix of studio and live recordings. Their music definitely won't be for everybody, but give it a shot. It might the gem you've been looking for."
