"GLASS CASKET - We Are Gathered Here Today...

-

These guys have been living in the footsteps of NC's Between the Buried and Me... Sadly this hasn't been helped by the fact that one of their Guitar Player's and their Drummer, Blake Richardson are now part of BTBAM. Despite many similarities between the two bands... Glass Casket does distinguish itself with this album. Songs like Pencil Lead Syringe immediately grab you by the junk and don't let go, pushing the limits of Grind, Hardcore, and Metal for nearly 5 minutes. This is pretty much the pattern up until the eerie, minute interlude, `Cellar Door'. Then immediately back into the chaos with `Chew Your Fingers' (the part at 1:10 onward and into the solo probably my highlight of the entire album.) Continuing with their more creative yet still heavy track right until the end. And speaking of the the final track, `A Gray A.M. You Will Never Get to See' is immediately vicious then flows into a heartfelt piece about the loss of his Sister to a car accident. Very seldom in modern music can you truly feel `heart' and `sincerity' this man put true emotion into that track and it shows... a beautiful, yet sad and somber way to end the CD.

Any fans of Aggressive Hardcore Music should check this CD out - Despite the BTBAM Similarities it is still an incredible album. Make sure you listen to the album in its entirety. For it ends stronger than how it started.

[Hopefully Glass Casket will recover after losing 2 members... BTBAM is on their 3rd Drummer and their 2nd Rhythm Guitarist and Alaska was their strongest yet. I've heard they are still together so I look forward to hearing these guys in the future.]

Favorite Tracks: Chew Your Fingers, Scarlet Paint and Gasoline, In Between the Sheets and A Gray A.M. You Will Never Get to See.

"I own 2600 c.d.'s. Hardcore, Death Metal, Black Metal, Grind, Every kind of metal you can think.

Well Glass Casket has just helped me out by adding it all into one. Mathematical, Technical, Breakdowns, Grind, Solos, a few clean vocal spots, but not overdone.

If you want to get your heart pounding, or if you just want to appreciate musicianship at it's best, check out this band.

Metalcore on the DeathishGrind level...

"From NC comes another metalcore band that wants to twist and shake things up a bit. We are Gathered Here Today to talk about the band Glass Casket. With a great mix of metalcore, deathmetal, and grindcore, this band produces some of the coolest music around. From "Pencil Lead Syringe" and "And So It Was Said" to "In Between The Sheets," We Are Gathered Here Today proves to be a rewarding listen for those who love this genre. Fans of BTBAM, Animosity, Hatebreed, (Old) Embodyment, and Norma Jean should appreciate this."
