Pretty much a showcase for the new tracks...

"No Turning Back: 1985-2005. (2005) The Second Greatest Hits compilation from Glass Tiger

If you know of Glass Tiger, you know about their 80s heyday and how they had great success with certain key songs, before fading away into obscurity. So let's get right to breaking down this album and see if it should be added to your collection, while you and I wait for a new studio album to come along...

The title of my review says it all. It gives us 2 new tracks (the title song and "Give It Away") as well as a B-Side from long ago. Everything else is found on the 1994 hits compilation BEST OF GLASS TIGER: AIR TIME, and AIR TIME is the better of the 2 compilations in my opinion. the 1994 version has 15 of the band's hits and album tracks, PLUS 2 very good unreleased tracks. There are more classic hits on that album than are found on NO TURNING BACK. Why didn't they just put the new songs on a new album and move on from there? I understand this CD correspondes with the release of the DVD of the same name, but still, I find this compilation to be pretty unncessary, and for those only looking for the classic 80s hits, this CD isn't compiled as well as it could have been. The 1994 version has pretty much EVERYTHING a casual fan would want (idealy the person that these CDs are aimed at) plus 2 awesome un-released tracks that fit in like magic.

Finally, most of the tracks on NO TURNING BACK are single versions (radio edits)...come on, nobody needs those. Yet another discouraging point on this compilation. And "Diamond Sun" is the french version. Doesn't do anything for me, and if you are a big fan of the original version, you've been cheated on this one.

In closing, it should be noted that BOTH compilations are widely available, so you don't have to settle for this inferior package. I strongly recommend, for those people who just want plain ol Glass Tiger hits, go with the 1994 version. If you are a completest, the new tracks will be a good addition for you until a new album comes along. Otherwise, this album isn't required listening, go pick up the DVD instead."
