"I find it wonderful that this material has been reissued, and such a nice job of it done, too. Over the years I've invested in quite a few vinyl copies of the Seasons/Coq D'Or...and have yet to get a decent pressing. So this one's been relegated to my "kennel" for a long, long time. It was just too good take in to the pound. On the vinyl I could tell it had nice sound...and on the CD it DOES have good sound. Desormiere's Seasons performance is so danceable, so balletic, so tonally and texturally worked out, nicely and idiomatically played that this becomes an historical reissue that eloquently attests to those qualities that made the maitre so famous. The Coq D'Or could probably be considered the first really good performance that came out on LP, and the Rapsodie, while less forceful than Paray's of the same period, emrges with a balletic danceability also that is striking. All told, this is a unique document of Desormiere at his characteristic best that serves as an outstanding testament to Desormiere's greatness...and blessedly provides those who know him with a good, clean production for the first time!"
