"I will admit that Miller, Goodman and Dorsey are not exactly my cup of tea. In the big band era, I prefer the bands of Ellington (especially the Blanton-Webster band) and Basie. However, I've seen quite a few old WWII era movies lately on TCM (including "The Glenn Miller Story" with Jimmy Stewart) and noticed how many Miller songs were featured. The more I heard, the more they grew on me. So, I saw this 3 disc set for under $10 at a local record store and had to buy it, which turned out to be an excellent decision. A poor decision was to let my dad "borrow" it, because it took about 2 months to get it back. All of the songs on this set were taken from the original sources, so the sound is superb. There is some surface noise, but the music is very natural sounding, unlike some other remastering jobs that cut off the high end in order to eliminate all noise at the expense of the musical quality. I would highly recommend this set to any fan of Glenn Miller or big band/swing music in general.
P.S. The track list on this set is identical to that on The Popular Recordings (1938-1942), but from listening to samples from that set, I prefer the sound on the one I have. 4 1/2 stars."
