It contains both the big hits of the period, such as "Fools Rush in," and all the tunes that have stood the test of time, such as "Moonlight Serenade," "Pennsylvania 6-5000," and "Serenade in Blue." "These recordings have never sounded better. BMG has used the latest hi-tech remastering techniques to squeeze every ounce of music out of Glenn Miller's original hits. Even if you already have these tunes on an earlier reissue, you'll want to update your collection with this far superior 2 cd set. You won't regret it!!!"
This certainly gets five stars.

"This RCA double-disc set ought to be in everyone's collection of classic jazz and swing music just because IT IS GREAT MUSIC, not because it is Glen Miller. (If you're a Glen Miller fan you probably already have this set.) In any case this is one to buy and play often. These sounds are irreplaceable. Nobody played music with a sound like Glen Miller's, a sound that is uniquely recognizable and loved world-wide. Other sets have other tracks that are equally worth buying but the tracks on this set are essentials."

"Wow! This 2 CD set is wonderful. The sound is fantastic. And the chronological song selection was well thought out. From "Moonlight Serenade" to "Juke Box Saturday Night", these 47 songs hit all the notes, fast and slow. A good mix. This is the best overall overview of Miller out there. If you only buy one Miller CD, this is the one to get. The Essential Glenn Miller truly lives up to it's title, and it's worth every penny."

"This 2 CD set is the best collection of Miller tunes I've ever heard.
The songs have been remastered and the sound quality is excellent, as if they had just been recorded!
If you are a fan of Big Band music you owe it to yourself to get this set."
Essentially Terrific!

"This is the "Essential" Glenn Miller CD to start with. I wanted to hear more Glenn Miller's songs as well as hear my parents' "song" which was "Imagination".They didn't scrimp with 47 songs on two CD's! Sound quality is excellent. The favorites, Chattanooga Choo Choo, In the Mood, Pennsylvania 6-5000, I've Got a Gal in Kalamazoo, A String of Pearls, Moonlight Cocktail and more are great. But you find yourself enjoying ALL the songs such as Elmer's Tune, Song of the Volga Boatmen, Perfida, and Adios! A nice 35-page book tells a detailed Glenn Miller story and song details with lots of pictures.CD producer Paul Williams and staff have set the bar for all who would create compilations for other performers. And, Imagination makes a very nice "song"."
