Heads Up Y'all. This material was digitally recorded in 1990. Glenn Miller's airplane went missing in 1944 over the North Sea. Although there are opinions about reincarnation he's not back on this disc. Consequently, neither Miller nor any of his original sidemen appear on this disc.

Actually, that's the end of the bad news.
This is no three dollar bill. The good news is The Talent and Skill recorded here are an apt and very faithful recreation of the Glenn Miller sound.
If you love Swing Music but just can't stand low-fi recordings this is the disc for you. No pops, no scratches, but it does have style.
Glenn Millers soul may rest in peace as long as the Music is in the hands of these musicians.

Miller Magic for a New Millenium
Tuxedo Junction | Los Angeles, CA United States | 04/05/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album was recorded by Larry O'Brien and The Glenn Miller Orchestra in December 1990. It demonstrates what a great job O'Brien has done since he began leading this band in 1981. And he still is. I heard them at Santa Barbara's Lobero Theater in April 2003. All I can say is that this band is still superb! "Moonlight Serenade" features 16 Miller chestnuts including the title song and theme, "Serenade In Blue," "Little Brown Jug," "Tuxedo Junction," and 12 others. You can hear vocalist Julia Rich sing "I Know Why" from the 1941 Miller film "Sun Valley Serenade." Rich is an outstanding vocalist and still sings with the band, a real joy.For those who love the original Miller band, as I do, this CD will make a wonderful addition to your collection."
Too "sweet" - it sticks

"Larry O'Brien has currently (Fall 2004) got the band much sharper and with an edge nearer the 1941/2 sound but this CD is not it.

The original Miller Band was always being accused of being "sweet" rather than "swing" or "jazz". Of course it wasn't but this CD is so sweet it it cloying and sickly.

Give this one a miss and select from one of the many others on Amazon if you want to hear the Miller sound - because this "ain't it"."
