"Uh well, I just wanted to point out that Gloria Lynne is great live, at least based on this album-pair. Her voice sounds great, and is filled with a sort of optimism...the album is very upbeat, not my favorite Gloria necessarily, but definitely worth having, and she owns "Fly me to the moon"."

"Very few singers can record a live performance that sounds just as good, if not better than work recorded in the studio, however, Miss Gloria Lynne happens to be one of those singers. This 2 album on one CD opens with her performance at Basin Street East, in New York, where all the heavies used to perform. The performance is balanced between some uptempo tunes, most notably, "And This Is My Beloved," "Mack The Knife", and "I Got Rhythym," along with some fine ballards, "It Never Entered My Mind," "Drinking Again," "Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)," and "Autum Leaves," which are among my personal favorites. Take note of Gloria's jazzy improversation on "Mack The Knife," and "I Got Rhythm." Her rendition of "Autumn Leaves" has a pulsating latin beat with the reknown Ray Barretto on the conga drums. She then changes the mood and sings the gospel-like tune "Tall Hope," making you forget that you are in a nightclub.



Gloria is accompanied by the Earl May Trio with Grasella Oliphant (drums); Herman Foster (piano); Earl (bass; along with guest appearances by Kenneth Burrell (Guitar) and Ray Barretto (conga drums).



The second half of the album was recorded at the Las Vegas Thunderbird with the Herman Foster Trio (Herman Foster on piano, Mel Lewis on drums and Leroy Vinegar on bass). This 4:00 am show at the Thunderbird had a house full of celebrities and fellow entertainers, some of whom can be very critical, however you can hear from the applause that they know a fine singer when they hear one. This show was also well balanced between uptempo tunes, such as, "End Of A Love Affair," "So This Is Love," "This Could Be The Start of Something Big," and "Record Company Blues, and heart stopping ballards such as, "In Love In Vain," "What Kind of Fool Am I," and "Sunday, Monday And Always," all of which are my personal favorites on the album, however all the tunes Gloria sings are outstanding. Whether it's her smooth, silky, sultry phrasing, or her uptempo, jazzy, finger snapping tunes that make you want to get up and shout, there is something here for everyone.



It's great to add a live recording of Gloria Lynne singing 24 sensational songs to my collection, and I recommend it to all those music lovers who appreciate her wonderful voice as much as I do!"
