"This is a lush journey into a rich, ripe, and delicious soundscape. I'll leave the analyzing of Gluck versions, cuts, authenticity, etc. to others and say only that I find this recording simply transcendent -- with Ewa Podles an almost other-worldly vocal experience. Her sound is so full, wide, and deep -- like a powerful river of liquid amber -- that I was dumbstruck. Amazing and unforgettable."

"Ewa Podles is an astonishing artist. On top of her superb recording of the Italian version of Gluck's masterpiece comes this spectacular version of the Berlioz edition, complete with virtuoso aria to conclude the first act. Mme. Podles is the whole show here, the other singers perfectly competent but otherwise rather nondescript. If I might ride a hobby horse here, it is a shame that less than mediocre performers such as Boccelli, Brightman, and Church should enjoy public adulation , while the critically acclaimed Podles langishes in relative obscurity. This recording of "Orphee" is the place to begin to reverse this situation, and at a real bargain price."
