"Maska is an excellent CD. Even though Glykeria isn't my favorite Greek artist, there is no denying her awesome talents.
For those who want to know what this CD contains, here's a listing of the songs:
Track 1: Mia Gynaika
Track 2: Pantou
Track 3: Anapnoi Anatoli
Track 4: Anna
Track 5: Agapi Hioni
Track 6: Efiges Ki Eisai Akoma Edo
Track 7: Hathikame
Track 8: Pire na Vradiase
Track 9: Giftizza Psihi Mou
Track 10: S'afto to Galazia
Track 11: Agapes Mou
Track 12: Feitarades Stis Kikalades
Track 13: Ti na Ftaiei
Track 14: Na Paroume Fotia
Track 15: Fos I Agapi Sou
Track 16: Maska
Just about every song is superbly done. Anna (Track 4) evokes the real heart of Abba's song "Fernando," but it's how a serious song might have sounded on the theme of a civil war. (Note: I have not a clue what Anna is about.)
Track 1 (Mia Gynaika) is a song I never get tired of hearing; the reviewer from Ohio is right on the mark. Track 5 is especially interesting, sung in both Greek and Arabic, with Natacha Atlas providing the Arabic part. Glykeria also duets with Paschalis Terzis on Track 7.
My favorite song is Track 6, which for me is Glykeria at her very best. (Also worthy of note is her work with Omega Vibes on the song "Diaspora," from the CD of the same name.)
However, I don't think it is fair to compare Glykeria with artists like Haris Alexiou, Anna Vissi, or Keti Garbi. Each artist finds her true voice in a slightly different style. Nothing proves this more to the point than the final track on this CD, the title cut. For some reason, Glykeria decided to infuse some funk/hip-hop style music into it. For me, it doesn't work nearly as well as the other songs. Yet Keti Garbi, for example, successfully and beautifully fuses laika and hip-hop on Thelo na Toso from her "Mia Kardia" CD.
Additionally, I don't believe Glykeria would even attempt a song like Vissi's "Eisai," but this is not meant to take away anything from Glykeria the artist. On the contrary, it speaks to the abundant variety of great styles to be found within the modern Greek repertoire.
For an added treat, seek out the CD by Pasxalis Terzis titled "De me katalaves pote" (You never understand me), where Glykeria joins Terzis in a stunningly beautiful duet on "Aspro Feggari" (White Moon)."
GLYKERIA RULES!!!

"Glykeria is awesome!!! She is one of the best female greek singers. The song anapnoi anatoli is AWESOME!!! If you don't buy this album, you're missing out on one of the best greek albums out there. She blows away Haris Alexiou, Keti Garbi, and Anna Vissi. This lady is awesome.."
Glykeria is a Greek DIVA and then some! Great music!

"My God this is an awesome CD! If the opening tune 'Mia Gynaika' doesn't get you up dancing and singing, you must be dead or perhaps physically challenged! The musicianship and songs on this CD are as good as contemporary Greek music gets! Do not walk, but RUN and cop this disc if you love quality Greek music! It's that good!"

"Much of Glykeria's success comes from her brain. She is a very intelligent singer. Yet at the same time she performs with such easy spontaneity that the listener wants to keep listening to her and buying her records. I have a bunch of them."
