"Godstar was Sydneysider-via-Canberra Nic Dalton's main band in the early-to-mid-90s while he was also running the Half A Cow label & [now unfortunately defunked] shop on Glebe Point Road, producing Smudge, the early stages of Sneeze, his duo [+ drummer] w/ Tom Morgan that wows the crowds nowadays. Well, Godstar was generally for the more 'serious' songs while Sneeze's were more humourous & in the early days specifically under 2 miuntes. Let's also not forget the masterpiece Billiepeebup by Love Positions, Nic & Robyn Saint Clair. Similar to the Lemonheads who Nic & Tom wrote half the songs of or Dinosaur Jr in the 90s, Godstar was Nic & anyone who was around @ the time, so Way Out Jim, the highlight of this or any collection is him alone multilayering on his 4-track while the full band might feature Robyn, Tom or Alison Galloway. This cd is an American release of songs from a few Australian singles, for instance the quite damn nice It's My Turn debuted on a promotional 7" also featuring Smudge's Leroy De Foix & Swirl's version of Calling Occupants [Klaatu/Carpenters], Way Out Jim [a later Japanese Godstar compilation album was named after it] & When Rosemary Smiles [featuring interesting instrumentation] on the Brightest Star cd single etc. Allover very good if not exactly desert island disc quality. A good intro or addition to an already avid HAC fan's collection. Godstar officially disbanded in early 1997 but a couple more 7"s & a ceedee compile [all from unreleased recordings] were released under the moniker the Godstar Reminder. enough of the history lesson, eh?"
