"Rubalcaba takes the inspiration of Gillespie arrangement into his own rich piano chording, yet produces a very original style. If Bill Evans and McCoy Tyner did an Afro-Cuban record together, you'd come somewhere near Rubalcaba's range of styles. In addition, I highly recommend one attend a concert by this pianist, as his densely-packed albums are just the tip of the iceberg.

"If you've tested the waters with some of the trios and such with Gonzalo and non-cuban musicians you might have sensed a lack of common ground.
This isn't a problem here and it's one of my favorites along with Diz's having givien Gonzalo total license to interpret (out of mutual respect) and Gonzalo's always original ideas about interpretations never seem out of place.
If you want to be ahead of the wave you'll keep up with Gonzalo and other originals from Cuba! See "Paseo" one of his latest for deep musical thoughts."
