Gonzalo Rubalcaba's great passion (""Mi Gran Pasion"") is Cuban ""danzón rhythm"", which was invented in 1879 by clarinettist Miguel Faílde and rhythmically perfected by José Urfé. On this recording, Gonzalo has masterfully interwoven the three elements of his artistic personality: danzón, jazz and classical music. The historical significance of this recording is quite clear. These danzón experiments are comparable with what Astor Piazzolla and Paco de Lucia have done for tango and flamenco.
