Product DescriptionThere is an all-encompassing and omnivorous approach to the creative work of José MarÃa Sánchez-Verdú--his inspirations derive from the purest traditions of Islamic music as much as they do from Western Medieval and Renaissance ideas. Such an approach has secured for Sánchez-Verdú a highly prominent international role. His chamber opera Gramma was commissioned by the Munich Biennial and comes with a libretto that draws on the works of authors as varied as Plato, Homer, Ovid, St. Augustine, Hugo de Saint-Victor, Dante, Saint John of Patmos, and the Bible. The performance here, given by the same artists who premiered the work in Munich along with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra directed by Rüdiger Bohn, does full justice to the subtleties of Sánchez-Verdú's score.
