"A little background is needed here. I moved to Kansas City about five years ago when I knew I was going to live there I was so excited. I mean, that's where it's at. All the jazz and blues greats came through this town. I was so happy to finally get away from the confines of Kalifruity and go some place with feeling. Some place with heritage you could sink your teeth into. Well freinds, let me tell you I could not have been more disappointed. The music that these folks out here call jazz might as well be Kenny G. or some equal crap. There's no nostalgia and vitually nobody playing first era jazz. You know, 'the good stuff'. And then I went to Jazz Kitchen and saw Grand Marquis. Holy smokes! They are what I wanted to hear. This is the stuff everyone seems to be missing out on. Do youself a favor and listen in to some of the greatest jump blues, jazz, and swing you've heard since Stalin was causin' a fuss. No kidding. There was a resurgence of swing about ten years ago, but to me it was more of a weekend thing to most. "Oh, let's kick off our sneakers and get some wing-tip, then we'll be RETRO!" That kind of stuff makes me want to vomit. What I'm talking about is the whole deal. As real as you can get these days. So, I lift me glass to the best hot jazz band in Kansas City. Keep it up, friends and I'll see you around for sure."
