"I'm not much for ballads;I prefer more up tempo stuff-but if I'm gonna listen to somebody play 'em,the great jazz guitarist,Grant Green is one of my chosen few cats I'll listen to.This is well-balanced-and beautifully played slow

stuff-that kicks off with 'My One and Only Love' and ends with

Thelonius Monk's 'Round Midnight'.'Ballads' also features the

legendary hard bop drummer Art Blakey on 'Nancy'.The great sax player and flutist,Yusef Lateef,makes an appearance on the standard,'My Funny Valentine'.And the cd also includes Kenny Drew and frequent Green collaborator Sonny Clark on piano,Jack McDuff on organ,Ike Quebec on tenor sax, Sam Jones and Ben Tucker on bass,Dave Bailey,Louis Hayes and Al Harewood on drums;If you're in the mood for some soft stuff,this is the place."
