CD Reviews

Rare classic, but not enough
Scott Woods | Columbus, Ohio United States | 08/03/2002

"This mini-album came out during Tricky's heyday and went surprisingly unheard by most people. A shame, since there are excellent songs on here that rflect heavily his hip-hop roots, probably moreso than he would pay homage to until the not-so-great "Juxtapose" record. This one catches him riding high off of the acclaim of his glorious debut, "Maxinquaye", and well within the top of his form. If you can find it, get it. Leaves you wishing it had more songs though."
Unessential Tricky for the "Supa fan" only

"Let's face it Tricky isnt an m.c. like say, Jay-z, yet we can find him working with some Gangsta-ish types from time to time, and on the kick off track on this cd he works with the "hill-fu-gees". And unfortunately the the song is pretty forgetable, with lyric that now sound rather dated. "Tricky kid" is actually a close to the same version found on Pre-Millenium but, doesnt quite match it in polishedness. Combined with a couple more tracks including a typical female sung bluesy type song and you get a b-rated ep. I'm a big Tricky fan but, this cd hardly gets played."
