"One of 22 albums turned out by this group headed by one of the great pianists out of Detroit, Hank Jones who is still turning out fine recordings at age 84. The other members of the trio have changed over the 26 year time span but the music remains consistently at a high levelof quality. This particular set, besides Hank Jones, features the brilliant bassist Eddie Gomez, who is an ideal accompanist in almost any setting, and the fine drummer Jimmy Cobb, probably best remembered for his work with Miles Davis. The Trio becomes a quartet on 3 tracks with the addition of classical violinist Lewis Eley and on 4 other tracks it is augmented by a string quartet. Normally I would not care for the addition of strings considering the trio personnel but the whole thing works out fine as a good set of unobtrusive jazz.....an impeccable performance that is fine for listening.....or if you want it as background while you are reading or some other activity. There certainly can be no fault with the program selection which mainly consists of Gershwin, Ellington-Strayhorn and Thelonius Monk.I'm certain anyone would enjoy this cd for its fine musicianship and in particular if you are familiar with the piano style of Hank Jones and enjoy really great and different arrangements of fine standards."
