"Yet another one of the worlds' artists with actual talent is ignored. Radio won't play it; and local music stores won't carry it. Nevertheless, Grenique is on point. Sultry souding voice, well-written tracks, soulful band. Every song on this album (except Black Butterfly) is excellent. This is true R&B. That garbage that is played on the radio that they call R&B is nothing more than showtunes with hooks that are easy to remember. We must change the way this country views and judges music. Your average American "music fan" would call something like this "alternative" or "underground" because it doesn't follow any hype or use propaganda to make revenue. When, in actuallity, this is the the REAL music that popular culture thinks they have but are missing. Anyway, if you don't have this album, get it as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing a lot more from this artist and soon hope to see more artists like her become the mainstream.

"Okay, so your wondering hmmm, should i get this CD? Two words - da bomb! This album is sizzling hot, splices of jazz, Rythm and Blues, tight B-Line....pure poetry. A definite for all music Connoisseurs. If you like Erykah, your gonna love Grenique. Rarely do you get to listen to a CD that you dont have to fast-forward. A very captivating piece of work from a Newcomer."

"I think it's really sad that an artist like Grenique never blew up like she should have. She came onto the scene before the music industry started trying to commercialize what they are now calling "neo-soul" (which is just a term they paste on it so they can co-op and sell it to teeny boppers in a watered down, socially acceptable fashion). This is truly a must have album with each and every track being soulful and enjoyable. If you don't own it, you should get it. You won't regret it."

"I still don't understand why Grenique remains obscure... she's got an original name, she's signed to Motown Records, her executive producer helped to skyrocket the career of Erykah Badu... so where'd she go wrong?Her mother named her the combination of her father's name (Greg), and the revelation that this child would be unique. Her style lives up the the second part of her name, as she puts out "Black Butterfly", a CD that is needed in today's world of over-sexed r&b "divas". Her voice is melodic, and the jazz-influenced music behind her can send any listener into wonderland.The songs on the CD are all beautiful and meaningful... "Anything" is about a love lost and what one is willing to give to keep love in their life... sounds like ballad material, but the upbeat tempo keeps you lively while your mind is diggin' the lyrics. "Star Of A Story", a George Benson cover tune, is done beautifully, and in my opinion is one of the best tracks on the CD.I don't know what it is about the song "Wonderland" that keeps me so enthralled... according to an interview I read, Grenique wrote the song to a man who she used to see on the train on the way home from work who she developed a crush on. When she finally built up the determination to talk to him, she got on the train and he wasn't there. She never saw him again, and the inspiration for the song was born. If it's true, the song is extremely expressive and sensual, and even better since it's based on real feelings.Other good tracks on this LP include "Love Within", which talks about the love you have to have for yourself before you can give it to anyone else. "Should I" deals with the emotions surrounding a dying relationship... again, a very expressive song. "You Say" deals with the "he said/she said" game-playing that often goes on in relationships. Although it's a bit over-used in today's r&b, Grenique pulls it off with a little more credibility than most could. "Trials And Tribulations" deals with problems faced by today's young people... the most up-tempo song on the CD, but still very well done.Overall, I'd have to say that Grenique's vocal talents are a little better-suited for a much lower-tempo setting, but this is a nice first offering. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who liked Erykah Badu's "Baduizm", or Macy Gray's "On How Life Is". A great CD by a future diva."
