CD Reviews

A welcome return for acclaimed Southern Rockers
John O'Regan | Limerick, Ireland. | 04/26/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I am very surprised that nobody has written anything here in praise of this fine album. Grinderswitch originally came to fame in the Southern Rock boom of the early to mid 1970's. Their return album 'Ghost Train from Georgia' updates their rootsy Blues/Rock fusion for a new era. Dru Lombar's throaty growl and distinctive slide guitar is still potent and while its a completely new band behind him, the music is still classy Souhern Blues/Rock. Lombar's vocals and guitar excell on Where'd You Learn to Love Like This?' and the shuffle beat of 'Dixie Flyer' while 'Homebound' gets a powerful new reading. 'Who's Been Cheatin' on Who'recalls prime time Robert Cray while the title track 'Ghost Train from Georgia' carries on the Southern Rock legend appropriately. This is cool, solid Southern Blues Rock played with style and confidence. Welcome back Grinderswitch-we have missed you."
