"Production is off the charts. This is one of Gucci's best albums out and I usually don't like an album the first time I hear it. I wish Gucci wasn't locked up so this album could get the proper promotion, same problem he's always had. Album cover is ironic and fitting. Free GUCCI!"

"DecemBURR 8th is a day in hip hop history that I won't soon forget. On this day major releases from several known hitmakers landed in stores. With Gucci Mane heading the charge followed by Snoop Dogg, Timbaland, BG, Clipse and Chris Brown it's needless to say some may feel overwhelmed. While being great for hip hop this leaves the (buying) fan with quite a dilemma. Are you going to shell out nearly $60 for everyone's albums? While I took the chance on 2/3 of those albums (sorry Chris and Timbo...maybe next time) the others will take a swift download. It sounds bad but that's how it is.



Gucci Mane is quite the polarizing figure in the rap game. Having worked his way into the mainstream the old fashioned way (good ol mixtapes and word of mouth) it seems that this is the type of story to be celebrated as it's the definition of rags to riches. Despite having legions of die hard fans throughout every inch of the country, hip hop purists are quick to dismiss Gucci Mane as something of a novelty act. Quick to call him a non-rapping no talent guy that only gets by on beats and hooks. Despite his wild underground following and widespread mainstream acceptance as of late (making appearances on songs by the likes of Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx, USHER and 50 Cent amongst countless other respected hip hop & R&B names), people will still choose to talk down on this man. However Gucci Mane is here to prove those people wrong on his 6th(?) studio album.



The State vs. Radric Davis is an ironic name for this album. It is so because Mr. Radric Davis will soon be incarcerated for a year on a violation of probation charge and testing positive for many different drugs. This news coming literally days after releasing the 18th song on this album "WORST ENEMY" in video form in which he confesses that he is his own worst enemy. So the cover is fitting as well, a facepalm in an orange suit. All you can do is shake your head because he just got out of jail earlier this year.



Gucci Mane is still making headlines though, this time positively, by publically ending a 5 year feud with megastar rival Young Jeezy (a real feud that ended in Gucci Mane killing a man in self defense). So despite his recent trials and tribulations maybe Gucci has learned, changed, and grown as a person (as well as a rapper).





Gucci Mane is undoubtedly a star in hip hop. This album validates his status. Right from the intro CLASSICAL, Gucci Mane displays that he indeed has talent and talent galore. His flow, content, lyrics, cleverness and technique are all displayed on that one song and lets listeners know that Gucci Mane is here to stay and the sky is the limit.



Gucci, while expanding his subject matter and technique, has not forgotten about what made him successful in the first place. Songs such as Heavy, Stupid Wild, All About The Money, Lemonade, and Bingo are the type of anthems everyone has come to love about Gucci.



Production is truly not a problem here receiving beats from the best producers of today; that is Drummer Boy, Bangladesh, Zaytoven, JUSTICE League, Polow Da Don, Zaytoven, Jazze Pha, Scott Storch, Shawty Redd, and Fatboi. WOW that's quite an impressive list of producers by any standards. Also coming to the defense of Gucci Mane are Lil Wayne, CamRon, Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, Keyshia Cole, Nicki Minaj, Trina, Bobby Valentino, Plies, Usher, Bun B, Devin The Dude, E-40, OJ Da Juiceman and Waka Flocka Flame. Well Damn!





Gucci Mane's The State Vs. Radric Davis is one of the best albums of the year. Beats, lyrics, anthems and is more like a coming out party rather than a going in party. He has not disappointed one bit. 5 stars.
