This May Be the Best Compilation of the Work of Guillermo Portabales. Born in Cuba in 1911, Portabales, with his Warm Emotive Voice, is One of the Finest Practitioners of the Son and "Guajira De Salon" a Kind of Rural Song Form Describing the Joys, Pains, and Daily Life of the Guajiras. His Approach was Less Jibaro and More Urban Than Some of his Peers. He Died in Puerto Rico in 1970, Tragically at the Age of 59, after Being Hit by a Car. These Songs Are Beautiful, and Quite Moving.
