Synopsis

Product Description
Arjen Lucassen's latest release ON THIS PERFECT DAY is the first album from his new project GUILT MACHINE. On this release, he departs from the over the top complexity of Ayreon in favor of the simplicity of a relatively small line-up. Rather than putting together an ensemble cast of vocalists, Arjen recruited Jasper Steverlinck , singer of the Belgian alternative rock band Arid, as the sole vocalist of Guilt Machine. The talents of Chris Matiland (ex-Porcupine Tree) were enlisted for the drum parts. Arjen's partner and manager Lori Linstruth supplied the guitar solos. The rest of the instruments were played by Arjen himself, who also sings backing vocals.

1. The Stranger Song
2. Michelangelo
3. Fan Messages

5. Twisted Coil (Radio Edit)
6. Pull Me Out Of The Dark (Radio Edit: Green And Cream)

CD Reviews

A fantastic piece of art

(5 out of 5 stars)

"First and foremost, this is my favorite album of 2009.

What's weird is that I sat down at my computer, went to the amazon home page, turned on my MP3 player and saw Guilt Machine on the main page, just in time to hear the coincidence come out of my speakers, as "In This Perfect Day" was the last thing I had listened to last night.

MUSICALLY: The guitar work is fine, rhythm is still just as predictable as all of Arjen's work, but Lori at lead shines again with her perpetually unique approach to soloing. The atmosphere is well defined, and is always in line with the lyrics. I wasn't too much of a fan of Arjen's last side project, Stream of Passion, but I awaited this album with much fervor upon hearing two preview songs on their myspace page.

Lori's lyrics are fantastic, a totally different feel from what Arjen traditionally writes. I love both, but this was a fantastic surprise.

I could go on forever, but I'll keep this short... This is one of those albums for me, one of those rare ones that upon hearing years from now, will always bring me back to that moment in time where I first heard this music. For me, that's all that's necessary to gauge the greatness of any music.

I'm not a big prog guy, the next release which I CANNOT wait for is Tryptikon (Continuation of Celtic Frost), but the vast majority of Arjen's work is very special to me. I will listen to this album until the day I die. It's just one of those albums... there is something about it that will be long-enduring.

I really hope that there will be another album to follow this with the same lineup.

OH yeah, I believe this one comes with the DVD with some extras. The interview was pretty interesting, I believe it went on for roughly 40 minutes. A good bonus, but I always buy the most expensive edition of anything out of Arjen's brain to support his habit as best I can (Habit: Making music)"
