"I couldn't disagree more than the review produced by "pianoman". Pollini has one of the most technically brilliant performances of the etudes--but the keyword here is "technical". You might say his professor was sitting there with a metronome making sure he never got too carried away with his rubato. It's nothing to worship, but something to tip your hat at--a good student who's glowing picture on the front has more warmth than his playing. Novaes might miss a note here and there, but plays the etudes in particular with a deeper maturity and artistic fashion. She understands that it's about music, not proving something. I admire her interpretation and heart, and find that listening to her playing reminds me of why I ever found interest in music."

It's not a mere casualty her most distinguished and renowned performances turn around Mendelssohn, Schumann, Grieg and Chopin. Her expressive and eloquent pianism amazed to that memorable French jury in which Gabriel Faure and Gabriel Pierne were by then.

Distinguihed refinement and winged musicality make of this album a true musical treasure.

Guiomar Novaes still remains as the greatest Brazilian pianist ever born and shares honours with Teresa Carreno and Rosita Renard as the most notable and overwhelming Latin American female pianists."

"With the digital age upon us I long ago put away my vinyl LPs and replaced them where I could with CDs. I thought that I could just go out and replace Beethoven's Emperor Concerto that I grew up on. But, I found myself comparing it to my first LP which is Beethoven Emperor Concerto 5, Guiomar Novaes,piano and Bamberg Symphony, Jonel Perlea, Conductor.

I finally got one of those combo..LP,CD,Cassette players and dusted off my collection and now I have my beloved Guiomar!!! Unparallel musicality and nuances. I had this album as a child and it influenced me as a Black man to study piano."
