CD Reviews

A decent selection of hits

"After the unbelievable `Siempre es hoy' and the bizarre `Reversiones', Gustavo delivers this selection form his discography, adding as a bonus for people who already owns his discography a new song `Tu locura' and a DVD including all his videos as a solo artist. These two added values will be more than enough for fans.

The Album

17 tracks from his discography and a new song. `Tu locura' presents the classical Cerati we all know, with interesting and well written lyrics and a nice mixture of electronic sounds with his acoustic guitar. Some of his best songs as a solo artist can be found here, themes like `Paseo inmoral', `Pulsar', `Amor amarillo', `Puente', `Amo dejarte asi', `Lisa' and `No te creo'. The only problem with the selection I believe is that the album `Reversiones' was considered for this compilation, so we have the revised versions of `Fantasma' and `Tu cicatriz en mi', that might not be that bad but aren't definitely better than the original versions. Overall, the 18 tracks are a good testimony of Gustavo's solo career and of his musical knowledge and inventive.

The DVD

A very nice bonus if you consider that most artists decide to release their videos in a DVD apart. In this case we have a greatest hits album and the complete videos that promoted them. Unlike the audio CD, '11 episodios sinfonicos' is present in this video collection, if you do not have that DVD, the symphonic versions of `Cancion animal' and `Corazon delator' are here, as well as a live video of `Artefacto'. If you haven't had the chance of seeing Cerati's videos this is a great opportunity to do so, the visuals that accompany his musical pieces are a perfect macth, see for example `Yo te llevo para que me lleves' and you will know what I'm talking about.

Even though I believe `Colores Santos' should have been considered for this album and that the revised versions from `Reversiones' may affect a little the general feeling and idea behind the album, Gustavo delivers a nice compilation of the themes that have made him the musical genius he is considered nowadays, and the bonus DVD is an extra excuse to buy it if you already owns his albums. No lyrics or booklet are included but as usual, the graphic design of the package compensates the lack of those two.

Great Introduction Collection For New Fans

"I recently became a Gustavo Cerati by association with Soda Stereo and slow exploration of his music, with songs like "Tabú" from Bocanada and "Torre de Marfil" from Siempre es Hoy. However, I did not come to understand the full scope of this artist's talent until I bought this collection. Songs like "Vivo", "Lisa", "Engaña", and others show Cerati's great solo career and multitude of sounds and colors. And in addition, the collection of his videos gives you another dimension of his work. I specially enjoyed the videos for "Paseo Immoral" and "Canción Animal", which shows Cerati singing the Soda Stereo classic and giving the song new life with his interpretation of the song with a full orchestra. Highly recommended for those fans that like me, missed out on his career up until now."
