An album version and a radio edit of a collaboration

""South Side" is the seventh song from Moby's hit album _Play_ to be released as a single. As I understand it, Moby collaborated with No Doubt's Gwen Stefani sometime around when _Play_ was being finished. Because it was too late (or for some other reason), Moby's original vocal version was used on the album instead. Now, thanks to the unanticipated runaway success of the album, this alternate version of the song has been released. This CD has two tracks: an edit of the Gwen Stefani collab, and the original album version. The full Gwen Stefani version (about 20 seconds longer) is on the "South Side" maxi-single, which was released a few weeks after this CD. Although as a long-time Moby fan I am partial to his original version, the duet with Gwen Stefani is not bad. It definitely changes the feeling of the song and makes it seem less lonely. Gwen has a good voice and harmonizes well with Moby. The music video, in which Moby and Gwen poke fun at rock stars and music videos, is hilarious. You should buy this CD if you don't want to spend a little more on the maxi-CD, or if you are a completist who must own every release by Gwen or Moby. There is little reason to buy it otherwise."
Great Version of the Song

"I really love the version of "South Side" with Gwen Stefani's vocals. It adds a certain freshness and kick that wasn't on the original album version. This CD has both versions, so you can hear for yourself. I did like the album version, but this new version made me appreciate the song far more.My only complaint is that the edit of South Side with Gwen is so short! Otherwise, it's a great song and worth a try."
Why don't i love this more?

"that was the question going through my head as i played my newest addition. i had seen the video and loved the song! i have the play album, but (somehow) hadn't heard that there was a version with gwen stefani helping out on vocals.so, i couldn't figure out why i thought this was so tepid. while her voice is still interesting to listen to, the music didn't seem very energetic. it played somewhat slowly - more attuned to moby's singing then hers. not at all what i remembered from the video.some quick searching on amazon helped answer the question. the video (i'm fairly sure) plays a remixed version. a version that has more of an energetic beat and is more in sync w/ gwen's energy. there is another version of this single - with much more limited ability - that has several remixed versions. i'm thinking, that that is the cd to buy. so, my recommendation is - go back to your search function and purchase that single."
Wonderful!

"The South Side single with Gwen Stefani is 300 times better than the album version. It's nice to hear a female voice in there, and she sings so nicely along with it. This isn't like other singles featuring other singers. Moby and Gwen are so harmonious that it sounds like they're actually singing together at the same time. (Really, Gwen is singing over Moby's prerecorded vocals) If you own Play, then you need South Side - the Single. Check out the Maxi Single too (ASIN B00005609B)."
The song is excellent, but..........

"Don't get me wrong, the song South Side is great but..........I just thought that there could've been some more versions/remixes of it included...this single has only two tracks and is not really worth getting to me. A few more versions of South Side along with some B-Side tracks would've made this single more worth it in the end. I bought this single used at a music store for .95 cents...at least i only wasted a $1.10 total *shrug*. Gwen Stefani and Moby actually blend quite well together as they sing the chorus in the whole song. That's my review, thanks."
