"I first saw the Hackensaw boys opening for another band. I had never heard of them but I was taken in by their high energy good time blend of old time country, mountain music, string band, pre-bluegrass gumbo. With 9 guys (sometimes 10) on the stage, they somehow held it all together when you might expect to hear an acoustic mush.A band member in the 2nd act that night said, "Man, those Hackensaws rocked my world." I couldn't have said it better. The Hackensaws totally upstaged the main act, and they did it again when I saw them open for Acoustic Syndicate. You really need to see and hear them live to understand what these guys are up to. But with "get some", you can get a good sample. This CD was recorded direct to tape in someone's living room with no studio tricks. It's just real bona fide music makin.' The sound quality is good and you'll hear a variety of Hackensaw material (mostly original). If you like "get some" then you may also want to pick up their 2nd CD "Keep It Simple", which is a little less raw, a little more polished, and a little more mid-tempo instead of the mach 3 pace on "get some."Even my wife -- who doesn't like bluegrass or anything too high or lonesome or old timey -- loved the Hackensaws.
