Hank Jr's Just a Baby

"This was recorded for the soundtrack of the early 60's movie "Your Cheatin' Heart". Hank Jr. was about 14 at the time. That is what makes this such a special, such a great selection of songs. Hank Jr would spend virtually the rest of his life in his famous father's shadow, looking for a way to put his own rebellious spin on the old tunes. But here, he's just a kid imitating his dead father as purely as he can. The results are wonderful. No pretentions of being a hillbilly rocker that dominates his later recordings, just played straight up. Since this was soundtrack material some of the songs are downright corny and overdone, that's ok. There's real innocence in Jr's delivery that overcomes all other complaints. Jr also did a great LP around 1968 called "Songs My Father Left Me". It included the minor hit "Cajun Baby". If you like Hank (either) find it, buy it."
