CD ReviewsNot a bad follow-up to Bulletproof David Whitman | Wichita, KS USA | 08/02/2007 (3 out of 5 stars) "This album isn't a bad sophmore effort from a trio of nitty gritty longhairs from England. There are some hard edged power chording going on but there's also some ventures into funk and weirdness. 'Mermany' is strange acoustic rock that kind of grows on you after a while. 'Libel' has a groovy bass line layered with r&bish vocals, and 'Bolex Dementia' is a fuzzy conglameration of shortwave radio noises, scratchy noise samples, and a psychotic sounding guitar riff.
The album's reigning acheivement has to be 'Spider's Web'. As far as I can tell, the song is about procrastination which is something everybody has had a problem with at one time or another. 'Just keep it out of sight, I don't wanna see you tonight! Just make everything right! I don't wanna see you tonight!". The singer takes on a 'out of sight, out of mind' attitude but knowing darn well, it will bite him in the rear in the very end. Great guitar riff, great bass playing, a bit funky but not in a bad way like Deep Purple's 'Stormbringer'. This is 70s funk-metal done right. 'Roll A Rocket' would be the album's 'Speed King'. It would make for a perfect soundtrack of to a muscle car chase from an old 70s B movie. Heavy, but not as evil as one might think, 'Bolex Dementia' is a solid effort that is a bit more experimental than the previous album. There are a few songs that don't hit the mark like 'Dazzle Dizzy' and 'Get Lost', songs that kind of go nowhere fast, but overall, a fun listen. " |
