"Harry Lookofsky made one contemporary jazz album and it is a GEM. It is also the only jazz album Maestro Lookofsky recorded. This is a tragedy because the arrangements, improvisation and multi-tracking (all by Lookofsky) are fantastic--technical wizardry for the time (thanks to the recording genius, Tom Dowd). Imagine, a guy books a jazz recording date. He is an unknown, has his own arrangements and demands the best sidemen a booking agent could get. So Hank Jones, Paul Chambers, Bob Brookmeyer and Elvin Jones show up thinking this might just be the worst decision they ever made. A brief rehearsal and run-through wows them! They can't believe this guy. Consequently, the recording is brilliant with inspired playing from all. There's barely 35 minutes of music here, but it is a treasure. You'll be wanting to hunt for more."
