Album DescriptionJoseph Haydn (1732-1809) was a master in combining the tendencies and possibilities of his time and weaving them into forward-looking structures. He was concerned not with the brilliance of each work, but its integrity. No virtuoso himself, Haydn created works which are not virtuoso concertos, but which nevertheless can only be played by virtuous musicians. The Hamburg Soloists were founded on the initiative of its present director, cellist Emil Klein, with the intention of creating a high caliber string orchestra for special chamber music and solo projects. Emil Klein was born in Romania in 1955 and studied at the Bucharest Conservatoire and with David Geringas in Hamburg. He achieved an international reputation on his concert tours of Europe, the US, and Africa. He appears as a soloist with orchestras and also spends time playing chamber music. In 1990 he founded the chamber orchestra Hamburg Soloists.
