"Wynton's Haydn sparkles with spontaneity, vibrant tone, and thrilling technique. The viruoso display on the cadenzas will make your hair stand on end. The Hummel is equally brilliant but I must really sing the praises of the middle movement. It just melts. I lend this disc out constantly to my trumpet students. Buy it."

"I wanted a recording of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto, and thought this would be a good bet, as Marsalis is such an accomplished trumpet player. And his performance is technically masterful, but there's no heart in it. He's just going through the motions. It's adequate, but disappointing."
