"This is definitely worth acquiring. Describing the differences in performance style is a little beyond me regarding these particular works, but I'll just say I first got to know the Sun Quartets through the Naxos label's Kodaly Quartet's recording. They are highly regarded recordings, and when I first heard this Hagen Quartet recording is compared favorably with them. The Hagen Quartet are a great quartet and not likely to disappoint you. I loved their recording of Mozart's early quartets. With Haydn's quartets I think you have to learn them by their major sets and the Sun (Op. 20) quartets and the famous Op. 76 quartets are probably the best representatives of early and late Haydn in his quartets. For the Op. 76 works I'd highly recommend the Trio (Deutsche Grammophon) set by the Amadeus Quartet."
