"Franz Joseph Haydn certainly wrote a bunch of symphonies. It is amazing that in his more than 100 that he penned, he continued to come up with a never-ending variety of ideas. These three, although unknown to many, are no exception. Number 25 has a half adagio, half allegro opening movement, and a nice minuet featuring horns, oboes, and pizzicato strings. Number 42 is a typical symphony from Haydn's middle period, while number 65 features an exciting finale, in a hunting style, with horns once again featured. Altogether, this is another very good release from Naxos, with great digital sound and fine playing by the Sinfonia Finlandia. Don't hesitate to pick up this CD, at a nice price."
