Amazon.comThese arrangements do have some historical significance. They were made by the man who brought Haydn to London and commissioned his last great symphonies. Johann Peter Salomon made the arrangements for house concerts after Haydn had led the Symphonies with full orchestra. It's hard to make a case for listening to these arrangements today, even when played this well on period instruments. There are many fine recordings of the Symphonies in their original scorings, played by a variety of orchestras on modern or period instruments. Some people do like a different perspective on their favorite music, though, and to them this disc can be safely recommended since it's so well done. --Leslie Gerber
