CD ReviewsAnother sugar high from Rum and Jewels J. Lund | SoCal, USA | 10/23/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "Recent singles by the Japan-based rap/hip-hop duo Heartsdales -- Jewels and her younger sister Rum -- have clearly moved them into a slick, hip-hop flavored pop direction. If you're familiar with their older music you'll have to decide if that's a good thing or not. I was disappointed at first, but as much as I tried to resist I'm finding myself quite addicted by most of their recent hits (guilty pleasures, I suppose). The track takes off from a synth riff not too far removed from Van Halen's "Jump," and the chorus is as sugar-sweet as some hits by another group that recorded a tune named "Angel Eyes" (ABBA).
ANGEL EYES is the second Heartsdales CD-single in a row to be issued in two versions: CD only and this CD/DVD combo. Included on the CD are four versions of "Angel Eyes," including an English version, the instrumental backing track, and the Kagami Remix (which has more of an electronica/hip-hop edge ala their first album). The disc ends with a "Heartsdales DJ BOSS Super Mega-Mix (combining key tracks from their first two albums). Don't blink or you'll miss the content on the DVD: a promotional video of "Angel Eyes" and a Shibuya Club Quattro live version of their recent hit "I See You."" |
