Synopsis

Album Description
French version of her album, originally released in 2008, includes one bonus track, 'Always Christmas'. Seventh album from the Bermudan songstress. Recorded at home in Bermuda, all on solar power, The Jasmine Flower is an album full of her trademark songwriting - deeply emotive and melodically beautiful, the songs are haunting, dark and uplifting all at once. The production is minimal - just Heather, with her shimmering, soulful vocals and a guitar, with some strings (the popular UK Raven Quartet) appearing on a few tracks. Heather made her name in Europe in the early 90's promoting a rocking live album called Blow that ushered in the era of 'Chick-Rock' two years before artists like Alanis Morissette or Sheryl Crow had released albums. Twenty years later she is still writing and touring with the same passion, outlasting her contemporaries. Warner. 2009.

CD Reviews

Passionate songs for a most rewarding album
Ananas | Montréal, Québec, Canada | 12/30/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This might be her best album ever... However, this is not for all fans of Heather Nova, especially those who expect rock or pop albums such as Oyster or Siren. The Jasmise Flower is introspective music, sometimes sad with plenty of soft guitar, strings and voice. In retrospect, please remember that there were songs in the same vein in each of her albums.

Among the most exquisite songs on this very homogenous but rewarding album, please note: Say Something; Out in New Mexico; Always Christmas (the only upbeat song which ends the album). On the negative side, (1) some may consider this as boring music (Is Joan Baez boring?) and (2) the picture on the front sleeve may give the impression that this is for a perfume advertisement. The Jasmine Flower is more than a perfume...!

This album is only available as import. This is unlikely that we might have the chance to see her performing outside of Europe (except the Bahamas). This is too bad because this music is very far from today's mainstream music: this is a call from an angel voice."
BEAUTIFUL SONGS
DICK YORK IS THE BETTER DICK | NEW YORK CITY | 04/05/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you are unfamiliar with HEATHER NOVA--you should buy this CD. It is hard to find and I know for a fact it is not yet available in the USA. You have to buy it from GERMANY (EBAY) or a retailer on Amazon that can import the title. There are some beautiful songs on this Cd. Acoustic and bare. The two best tracks are "Out in new Mexico" a song whose melody is haunting and original and "Follow Me in Grace" a very personal and interesting song. if you compare this CD to Heather's early works such as OYSTER you will probably be disappointed because this work does not feature the lush production nor complex rhythms and beats. nor is it as MANIC and INTENSE. yet it does succeed on a simpler level. This Cd does feature heather's vocals at her best, her songwriting has far exceeded any other recent efforts that sold poorly and is well worth the purchase price. This is not a Sell out CD-it is still an artist doing what she feels is her best work. I highly reccomend this CD."
"Do Yourself A Favour"
John P. Kelly | Brisbane, Australia | 04/10/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"You must get this album. It can be downloaded, not necessarily here, but elsewhere. If you can't then get it here. It is well worth the price, even in US currency. I love Heather Nova, and personally, it doesn't matter if it is a little different to her other albums. If you are not a Nova fan, then listen to a track, if you like, then buy it."
