CD Reviews

Not your typical Heather Small sound
Gregg Dee | Podunk, USA | 08/20/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you loved Heather Small's last cd "Proud," then this one will have to grow on you. It's more "rock-sounding" and doesn't grab you on the first listen like her previous cd's with the M People and her solo effort mentioned above. That aside, the cd is very good. Heather's voice is near perfect on this release and her sultry style is evident here. The Amazon description says that "Crazy for you" is a cover of the Madonna song of the same title, but that is incorrect. Is sounds nothing like the Madonna song. Of course, "50 ways to leave your lover" is a cover and much better than the original and other cover versions of this song that were done last year. Overall, the cd's musical styles don't blend well. Going from a "rock-tinged" track to a gorgeous ballad doesn't cut it for me. "Don't give up on love" is a stand out, as well as "Radio on" the first single. Check out the dance remixes of "Radio on" as they are better than the album version, which is slow. Hope a US label picks this one up! Can't wait for some more dance remixes from this album."
Heaher Small's Magnificent Miracle Voice
Brien Comerford | Glenview, Illinois United States | 10/23/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"British vocalist par excellance, Heather Small, has totally ascended to greatness on "Close To A Mirace". Her booming and beautiful voice infuses genres and some songs sound like uplifting religious rivals while others are sublime songs of love and lose. Heather Small sings gospel, blues, rock, soul and melancholy ballads with inviolable mastery. Every song of this CD is different but that's why the recording is so rewarding to listen to. She belts out on some tracks and then on some tracks she sounds like a tender angel. This CD is a must buy and so is her "Proud" CD and "Fresco" recorded with the M People. Heather Small is an an environmentalist and a humane vegan whose paramount song is "Peace On Earth". The latter appears on a environmental CD titled GAIA. America needs to embrace the incomparable Heather Small. She could easily win American Idol. She even sings Torch music ! Heather can do it all akin to the great British icon, Joan Armatrading."
Just unbelievable voice....

"Heather just keeps getting better on her own. The best tracks are 'Radio On, Close To A Miracle, Rise Up and 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover'."
