Synopsis

Amazon.com
Well into the second generation of hip-hop, Heiruspecs are aware of the tradition from which they have grown--the track "Dollar" even name checks some of their influences. However, an awareness of history has also allowed them to push and pull against any limitations that tend to shadow the commercial ascension of any new musical genre. Favoring bands like De La Soul, the recurring electric piano parts tie part of their sonic identity more into seventies and eighties sitcom theme songs than to the slash and wallop of rap. (Try listening to "5ves" without picturing the opening credits of "Taxi.") Heiruspecs have seamlessly incorporated elements of soul, pop and jazz, sculpting a nicely diversified album experience. --David Greenberger

"Heiruspecs have done it right on their new release, A Tiger Dancing. Blending elements of old school with the spit-fire lyrics of new hip hop, Heiruspecs flow with a great amount of simplicity. The album features 2 hot MC's spittin over a real instrumention band. The sound created by the live instruments gives the record a more real feel, rather than some stupid looped beats. All in all, these guys have great things coming for them and it will only be a matter of time that these underground hip hop monarchs spread out to the masses with their infectious groove based songs."

"yo, just to clarify, this is their third release, their first being antidisestablishedmetabolism, way underground, not all that many people have heard it. Their second was Small Steps, and their third being, of course, tiger dancing. This CD is pretty dope, and you should definitely cop it if you are a fan of heiruspecs, or hip-hop in general. They did a pretty good job following up small steps, which was an incredible album, but in my opinion didn't do quite as good of a job. Not to be a hater, because i most definitely recommend this album to anyone who liked small steps, and know the band well. Definitely cop it, but don't expect to be amazed by every track like you may have been with small steps."

"Im from Minneapolis so Im quite familliar with Heiruspecs. This is their second release. And they follow up their amazing debut with another amazing CD. Heiruspecs is a real band with 2 MC's. the fact that they play their own instruments leads some interesting and innovative sounds. One of the best things I can say about Heiruspecs is that they are "Unique". Some people would like to compare them to the Roots due to the fact they play their own instruments but thats not true. The two MC's (Felix and Muad'Dib) have awesome styles that comment each other very well.

Their first CD(Small Steps) was a bit more upbeat. This CD has some deeper bass beats and comes across a little harder. Overall Heiruspecs has a upbeat and groovy sound. My only real advice to give on this CD is just give it a chance. Heiruspecs is truly unlike any other bad I have ever heard. They have a fresh sound and are worth a shot. If you like this CD at all, give their first CD a listen also. I like Small Steps a little more.
