Although she worked and recorded with Harry James, she next appears on our CD recorded in 1938 as vocalist for The Count Basie Orchestra, a role she inherited from Billie Holiday. She managed to become as equally adept at small group R&B as she was at fronting Big Bands and worked in both genres throughout her career.
