Nice Sound with Introspective Lyrics

"Hélène Ségara has been around a while, but her career apparently didn't really take off until after she toured for the musical Notre Dame de Paris (in the role of Esmerelda). With her newest album, though, she really shines. The music varies from the almost ethereal Douce to the decidedly rocky Méfie-toi, with a title track that starts out like a Portishead ballad and works its way into contempo pop. Femme wanders through Sarah McClachlan territory, but away from the saccharine side.
The album is centered around the theme of death and passage, most transparently in Father, Rien n'est comme avant and Quand l'éternité, providing an introspective feel that provides a nice respite from the mindlessness of American pop these days. All in all, a very nice listen."
