CD Reviews

A great montage of Doom riffage

"I just got my copy of Helms Alee "Night Terror" and it's the japanese version so it was kinda cool. After nodding to "Borrowed Wind" from their first EP I was expecting some sort of come back to that song... Basically how you gonna top that? "Night Terror" is totally awesome, the rhythems are deadly and the Vocals are very inspiring. one track actually reminded me of my all time favorite band Failure so that added some bonus points. Borrowed wind is no longer on repeat, and needless to say has been replaced with "Night Terror""

"My new favorite band at present. Helms Alee has a lot of things I look for in a band. Beautiful melodies, some psychedelia, nice male/female harmonies, all spaced between pummelings of epic proportions. My favorite songs on Night Terror are Rogue's Yarn and Paraphrase because they both lock into slow, super heavy grooves. If you like faster metal, then you will like the song Big Spider. This band features a guy named Ben Verellen who played in These Arms Are Snakes and Harkonen. If you like Isis, Pelican, These Arms Are Snakes, Harkonen, or maybe any of the newer Mastodon albums, give Helms Alee a try. This band is brought to you by the legendary Hydra Heads records, owned and operated by Aaron Turner of Isis.

I discovered this band via Alarm Magazine, a publication devoted to exposing underground musicians and artists like Helms Alee. Sorry, but I had to give them a plug because they have turned me onto so many bands that are unfairly unnoticed by the rest of the world.

I wish I could find more music from Helms Alee. They have a couple songs on their myspace page that are totally awesome, but I can't seem to find the albums those songs are from. Amazon is selling a vinyl album, but that doesn't help me much because my record player is broken. Anyways, if you know where I can get some leave a post on this review for me. Thanks."
